Company Overview
Tigera develops Calico, the leading open-source networking and security platform for Kubernetes, used by enterprises globally to secure containerized workloads at scale. The company combines deep kernel-level networking expertise with cloud-native security, serving Fortune 500 customers and the broader Kubernetes community. Tigera values technical depth, collaborative innovation, and solving complex infrastructure challenges.
Culture Signals
- Technical Excellence: High bar for engineering rigor; candidates should demonstrate deep systems thinking, not just surface-level knowledge.
- Open Source Mindset: Strong commitment to Calico's open-source community; interviewers value contributors who think about ecosystem health, not just product features.
- Ownership and Autonomy: Employees are expected to own problems end-to-end. Self-starters who drive decisions without constant oversight are preferred.
- Clarity in Communication: Remote-first company culture demands excellent written and async communication; interviewers assess how you explain technical concepts.
- Pragmatism Over Perfectionism: Balance architectural purity with shipping value; the team ships features while maintaining code quality standards.

- Tell us about a project where you had to balance technical debt with feature velocity. How did you make trade-off decisions?
- Walk us through your experience contributing to or maintaining open-source software. What motivated you, and how did you handle community feedback?
